The Motorola Atrix, the dual-core Android phone that stole the show at CES back in January, has finally been blessed with UK launch details, including price and availability. As expected, it’s an Orange exclusive, and the novel laptop dock will be making a cameo on store shelves too – will this be the phone to take on the mighty Samsung Galaxy S 2 next month?
The Motorola Atrix will be arriving on Orange in “early May” according to the network, and will be free on your typical £35 per month, two year contract, with 600 minutes, 750MB data and unlimited texts.
Of course, while the dual core Nvidia Tegra 2 1GHz system on a chip powering the Motorola Atrix should make it one of the best performing smartphones yet, the handset itself is only half the story. You’ll be able to pick up the HD Multimedia Dock or Lapdock, which let you use the phone’s hardware to power desktop apps, such as Firefox, and see your phone’s screen from within a scalable window.
The dock is going for a rather tidy £49.99 with mouse, keyboard and remote control if you pick up the Atrix through Orange, while the £299.99 lapdock will also be subsidised on contract – we’re still digging for the precise discounts.
We’ll be reviewing the Android 2.2 fuelled Motorola Atrix very soon. But in the meantime, with the similarly specced Samsung Galaxy S 2 launching on 1 May, you tell us – which will you be buying?
