Android Ice Cream Sandwich - Andy Rubin lets slip

We’ve barely had time to digest news about Android Honeycomb, and already chatter is starting about the next version of Android. A leak, straight from the mouth of Android chief Andy Rubin, reveals that the next iteration of Android will be called Android Ice Cream Sandwich.

The reason it’s got the sandwich bit on the end is thought to be because otherwise we wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between the Froyo logo and the Ice Cream logo. Make it sandwich, and you’ve got two discernible logos. One commenter pointed out that the logo argument isn’t as strong as it seems though, and said that three ice cream scoops, or a cone, would work fine.

Jason Kincaid over at TechCrunch said: “It’s going to be called Ice Cream Sandwich. Android chief Andy Rubin told me so…It was mentioned in passing as he spoke with Michael Arrington and me about the Nexus S.”

Google of course, said they “don’t comment on rumour or speculation”, so we’ll have to wait for the official announcement to see if Kincaid heard right.

What do you think about Android Ice Cream Sandwich? Can you think of a better name than this?
