It’s like going from Kate Moss to Katie Brand, both have their charms but one is substantially heavier than the other. However, there are some really good reasons to give your iPhone 4 a Mophie Juice Pack Air coat for Christmas – not least the added battery life. The Mophie Juice Pack Air gave us approximately 5 and a half hours of extra iPhone 4 battery life when we used it correctly, flipping on the built in switch when the iPhone 4’s own battery was in the red line deaththrows. As we’ve banged on about already, the Mophie Juice Pack Air iPhone 4 case is a hefty beast but the benefit there is that it gives your iPhone 4 some serious protection against drops, knocks and scuffs – the hard shell really dealt with the pounding we gave it.

The one annoying thing about the Mophie Juice Pack Air iPhone 4 case is that it uses a mini-USB to USB cable meaning you can’t simply hook it up to your MacBook or PC with your normal lead. However, when you use the cable supplied in the box, it’ll do the same charging and synching that the standard cable gives you. That’s great because charging the iPhone 4 also means you’re charging the Mophie Juice Pack Air simultaneously.
Mophie claims that the Juice Pack Air iPhone 4 case acts as a “virtual speaker box” to redirect and enhance the sound pumped out by your handset. That’s slightly true but it’s hardly the big feature it’s touted as.
Another feature of the Mophie Juice Pack Air iPhone 4 case which we liked was the indicator lights at the bottom which mean you can quickly press to see how much juice there is sloshing around in the additional battery. One other negative with the case though is that the top section sometimes won’t fit flush to the bottom part, an annoyance for folk like us who are little particular about how our iPhone 4 dresses.

The Mophie Juice Pack Air iPhone 4 case is a great accessory for power users who tend to batter the battery and will be a lifesaver if you tend to go to a lot of festivals or do long journeys without convenient power points along the way. However, it’s likely that you’ll use the Mophie Juicepack iPhone 4 as an occasional case for when you need extra energy rather than an every day accompaniment for your phone – it’s just too big.
