Nokia C6 announced - CBD screen goes head to head with Retina Display

The Nokia C6 just broke cover at Nokia World 2010. It’s a small smartphone crammed with an 8 megapixel camera and Ovi Maps with driving navigation. The big story though, is Nokia’s new CBD screen technology inside. CBD stands for ClearBlack Display, and is what the Big N reckons sets the C6 apart.

Obviously, it’s set to go head to head with the Retina Display of the iPhone 4 and new iPod touch.

Explaining CBD, Anssi Vanjoki, Nokia’s Executive Vice President of Mobile Solutions said “it’s a premium touchscreen that provides a higher contrast viewing experience than anything before. the background of the ClearBlack Display is blacker than black, because we have used a polariser to remove unwanted reflections for important outdoor visibility. It has lower power consumption too. It’s not only blacker, it’s also greener.”

The Nokia C6 comes clad in a stainless steel shell. “Its compact size is great for smaller hands,” says Vanjoki, and there’s a new version of Nokia Maps inside too, cramming in Ovi Walk and Drive turn-by-turn navigation as well as new functions for “Sharing your social location” with friends.

Ovi Maps is about to go head to head with Foursquare and Facebook Places too. Can it cut it? Give us your thoughts in the comments section.
