UPDATE: Yup, the Eee Box EB1501P is on the way. An Asus UK spokesperson just confirmed to us that it’ll be going on sale here with all those specs, plus Windows 7 Home Premium in late Q3 or early Q4, for around £379 inc VAT.
A new Eee Box EB1501P home theatre nettop is on the way, according to a new report, and it’s packing the same slick specs as the upcoming Asus Eee PC 1215N. Is this a Mac Mini masher?
We’ve not seen a new Eee Box since late last year, but at last a refresh is on the way, according to a new report. An Eee Box EB1501P is on the horizon, according to French site Blogeee, which has a track record of leaking new Asus machines.
The new Eee Box EB1501P will still sport 2GB of DDR3 RAM, a 250GB hard drive, and presumably Windows 7, like its predecessor, but will ramp things up with a second gen Ion desktop 16 core graphics chip and the Atom dual core D525 chip. Wireless N Wi-Fi and HDMI for lashing up the Eee Box EB1501P to your flatscreen are included too, along with six USB ports.
The Ion 2 chip and the D525 CPU are the big news with the Eee Box EB1501P though. Both should mean great performance pumping out HD video and even newer games, while keeping the price well below that of the latest £649 Mac Mini.
No, we’re not sure how notebooks have suddenly come to possess specs that impress either, but we’re grateful for it. We’ve asked Asus UK for more details about an Eee Box EB1501P launch and we’ll update as and when we hear back.
