Skype for iPhone - no more charges for calling over 3G, updated for iPhone 4 retina display

Skype has changed its mind about charging extra for making Skype calls over 3G, and has updated its iPhone app to make use of the iPhone 4 retina display and iOS 4 multitasking.

It’s taken a month for the iPhone app update to come through, and surely the best news is that Skype will be dropping extra charges for making calls over 3G.

Peter Parkes, blogger in chief at Skype, said yesterday: “We no longer have plans to charge a supplement to make calls over 3G. We’re delighted to make it easier for you to talk for even longer and do even more together using Skype.”

Skype has also added iOS4 multitasking for the iPhone, meaning you can continue a call whilst using other applications on your iPhone 4, or when your phone is locked. However, some commenters are reporting that this hasn’t been working so well.

The display resolution has also been racked up a notch, to make the best of the iPhone 4 retina display.

Have you downloaded the Skype update? How is it for you? Tell us about any problems in the comments.
