The Dell Mini 5 aka the Dell Streak looks set to become the first compelling iPad UK rival. Michael Dell teased the crowds at a tech show in San Francisco with a demo of the Dell Mini 5 and spilled the beans about its imminent UK arrival…
We first saw the Dell Mini 5 as a Dell Android slate prototype back in January at CES and then in March in a set of leaked slides that confirmed the Dell Streak name and Amazon Kindle integration. But the demo by Michael Dell at Citrix Synergy conference is the first time the Dell Mini 5 has made a proper public appearance.
The Dell Mini 5 specs seem to be the same as when we last spotted it with a 5in WVGA multittouch touchscreen, capacitive buttons on the front, a 5MP camera with autofocus and a LED flash and a front-facing VGA camera. It also packs in WiFi, Bluetooth and 3G.
Michael Dell said the Dell Mini 5 runs the latest version of Android which could mean the current incarnation or Android 2.2 Froyo. Most excitingly, Dell revealed when the Dell Mini 5 will make it to Europe: “This will be available starting next month, first with our partner O2 Telefonica in Europe, then later this summer…in the United States.”
After waiting for the iPad, it’s nice to see a tablet that looks set to touch down in the UK ahead of America. The larger Dell Looking Glass tablet is also rumoured to be arriving later this year. Are you tempted to postpone your iPad UK preorder and wait for the Dell Mini 5?
