The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic may still be missing its initial letter but, by way of compensation, Nokia has just issued a major software update that fixes some bugs and adds a healthy dollop of new features to enhance the phone.
Nokia 5800 XpressMusic owners, start your downloading engines. Nokia has an update for the 5800 XpressMusic that will give the handset a boost and provide some useful new features.
The update provides a speed boost in the form of faster download speeds and performance tweaks to make the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic user interface more responsive.
New features include support for taking still images using the second (video chat) camera, a ‘burst mode’ for taking multiple photographs – useful for capturing action shots – and a Mobile Dictionary that can provide pronunciation help for words in 38 languages.
Most interesting the new Application Update feature. This works rather like the updates option in the iPhone App Store, so you can check to see if there is an update available for any of the software on your Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. You can even ask Application Update to perform these checks silently and download any updates without your intervention. This is presumably intended to pave the way for the upcoming Ovi Store.
The update is available free of charge from the Nokia Software Update site, although remember that you may have to pay data charges if you download over a 3G connection.
