UMPC collage charts netbook evolution

Some people have too much time on their hands. This UMPC collage has been painstakingly constructed, charting every major UMPC, netbook, MID and whatever else you call them since the market began. It’s interesting, but is it art?

There are a few strange ones in here (Is the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 a UMPC? We didn’t think so.) Not to mention a few missing models, but this UMPC collage pretty much traces the evolution of the UMPC from conception, all the way up until the Sony VAIO P and the Eee PC 1008HA.

What’s surprising is just how far up the first Eee PC, the 701, appears. It’s easy to forget that the UMPC was around long before then, it’s just that Asus was the first to realise people would actually buy one if it was cheap.

Enough talk though: take a trip down memory lane and see how many UMPC models you can name, and if you’re really riveted, you can see them blown up with links over at umpcportal.com.
