The world’s longest-running gaming awards ceremony held its 26th annual event on Friday. Over 850,000 votes were cast to decide the winners of the prestigious Golden Joysticks and it’s pretty clear that Activision’s Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare owned the competition, seeing off the likes of Portal, Crysis and World of Warcraft to secure its victory.
CoD 4 scooped the Ultimate Game of the Year, PC Game of the Year, Online Game of the Year and the Nuts All-Nighter Award accolades. GTA IV came in second with two awards, for Soundtrack of the Year and Xbox Game of the Year.
GTA developer, Rockstar, also won developer of the year, presumably because gamers are slightly embittered by the fact that CoD4’s developer, Infinity Ward, keeps handing the Call of Duty reigns over to Treyarch, which never does half as good a job of it. That said, hopes are high for this year’s Call of Duty: World at War, despite its uninspired return to the WW2 era.
